Intro

As an engineer, I value code that is easy to read, easy to maintain, and readily testable. I think debt is useful for personal and corporate finance, but we should be as cautious about accumulating debt in a codebase as we are in life.

As a human, I value growth, grace, and quality. I adore my grubby, outdoorsy mountain family. My favorite place to be is on a trail with them, particularly on a mountainside headed towards a cool alpine lake. Robert M. Persig wrote a line in Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance that has stuck with me for decades, "It's the sides of the mountain which sustain life, not the top." The literal text and the metaphor both resonate with me deeply.
